Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement
Diversity, equity and inclusion are essential in meeting FLAP’s mission to improve working conditions and opportunities for low-income workers and their households. Indeed, FLAP exists because of the injustices committed in the workplace against low-income Latine immigrant workers. It is its duty, as part of this exploited and persecuted community, to assist those who seek aid and justice regardless of their immigration status.
FLAP celebrates the diversity of Illinois and has a more than 24 years reputation for hiring from within the diverse Latine communities we serve. This makes the organization more effective and more responsive to our communities’ needs. The organization provides jobs that offer competitive pay including career advancement opportunities and generous and comprehensive benefits.
FLAP is an equal opportunity employer. The organization has an affirmative policy to maintain the work place free of sexual harassment and intimidation. All qualified job applicants and potential clients receive consideration without regard to age, ancestry and/or national origin, color, disability, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, political affiliation, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and/or veteran status. This would be FLAP’s position even if it were not the law.
The organization is committed to creating a workplace where everyone is welcome and where staff and community navigators, independent contractors, coming from the low-income community FLAP is servicing, have a voice. As a culture of inclusivity provides for more expansive and varied ideas and perspectives, staff are encouraged to share feedback and ideas. They share their pronouns in English and Spanish in their email signatures and when identifying themselves. The bilingual staff and community navigators do their best to accommodate those with physical or intellectual disabilities who attend FLAP’s workshops and programs, and make sure that information is provided in English and Spanish to ensure all are able to understand it. FLAP is committed to leading by example in the fight for the rights of everyone!
